• The History of Rome, Book 24 §18 all moved from their tribe and made aerarii

  Citizens degraded by the censors—struck from their tribe and liable to a poll-tax—as a mark of disgrace, the penalty laid on the Cannae conspirators and the draft-dodgers.

• The History of Rome, Book 27 §11 tax-payers

  Aerarii: citizens degraded to pay tax without the rights of voting or service, a censorial penalty.

• The History of Rome, Book 29 §37 aerarii

  The aerarii, citizens degraded by the censors to a tax-paying class without the vote of their tribe.

• The History of Rome, Book 42 §13 aerarii

  Citizens demoted by the censors to a degraded status: they paid taxes but lost the right to vote in the better tribes and to hold office or serve in the regular legions.
