• The History of Rome, Book 24 §6 Hippocrates and Epicydes

  Carthaginian-born agent of Syracusan descent, sent with his brother Epicydes by Hannibal; made Syracusan praetor, he drove the city into war with Rome and led its forces against Marcellus.

• The History of Rome, Book 25 §23 Hippocrates

  Brother of Epicydes and joint leader of the anti-Roman party at Syracuse; he dies of the plague before the city's walls (§26).

• The History of Rome, Book 26 §47 Hippocrates

  One of the tyrants of Syracuse who held the city against Rome.
