  The dominant decemvir, who feigned a friendship for the people to win re-election and then ruled as a tyrant; the central villain of Book 3.

• The History of Rome, Book 4 §48 the decemvir

  The dominant and ultimately tyrannical decemvir; feigned popularity to be re-elected, then ruled with his colleagues as 'ten kings'—the villain of the Verginia story.

• The History of Rome, Book 6 §20 Appius Claudius was led to prison

  The tyrant decemvir (449 BC), imprisoned at the fall of the decemvirate; his kinsmen had then gone into mourning, unlike Manlius's.
