• The History of Rome, Book 5 §31 Marcus Manlius, who was afterward surnamed Capitolinus

  Consul 392 BC; roused by the sacred geese of Juno, he hurled back the night assault of the Gauls on the Capitol and won the surname Capitolinus.

• The History of Rome, Book 6 §5 Marcus Manlius Capitolinus

  Patrician savior of the Capitol from the Gauls (roused by Juno's geese); in this book he turns champion of the debt-bound plebs and is destroyed for aiming at kingship.

• The History of Rome, Book 38 §13 Marcus Manlius

  M. Manlius Capitolinus, who in 390 BC repelled the Gauls scaling the Capitol by night.

  Father of one of the two young Manlii Acidini.
